Stephanie Brown & The Surrealistics

Stephanie Brown & The Surrealistics is a 6 piece surf rock/gloomy pop ensemble. Stephanie Brown has been performing in the San Diego, CA area with several groups over the past few years, including psych rock band Ocelot that had the pleasure of opening up for the Budos Band at the Belly Up in 2016. In addition to this, Brown had the pleasure of auditioning at Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals in March of 2016 for the release of the Gregg Allman Band's upcoming album, working alongside talented producer Don Was and closely with Allman himself. Her new project, Stephanie Brown & The Surrealistics, started in late September of 2016 with guitarist Ryan Amyot, a member of local San Diego band Creature Canyon. The duo began co-writing tunes hoping for a sultry subdued sound, but eventually morphed into a more upbeat project. Bringing in members Michael Stell on keys, Andrew Ware on drums, Wil Lopez on bass, and Kimmy Menshek on backing vocals, their sound has been hastily evolving, and will continue to see rapid growth throughout 2017. Stephanie sings in a raspy mezzo-soprano, her lyrics often hauntingly melancholic with subtle existential themes. These tracks strive to bring back a 1950's-60's sound. So far, the debut tunes have been compared very broadly to artists including: Link Wray, Mazzy Star, Grace Slick, Lana Del Rey, Florence & The Machine, & Nirvana.

Creature Canyon

Formed in the latter half of 2015, Creature Canyon consists of singer-songwriter Austin Steele, guitarist Ryan Amyot, bassist Elliot Ramsey, and drummer Kyle Victoria. They can be described as a high energy 4 piece with melodic guitar riffs, vivid bass lines, boisterous rhythms, and in-your-face vocals. Their debut full length album "Life I Know,” released in May of 2016, was recorded at Studio West, Pacific Beat, and Steele Studios. Most of the album was recorded at Studio West in a ten hour marathon session with the help of recording engineer Bryan Zullo. Recording all in the same room together allowed the band to capture the electrifying old school approach to modern recording.

The band's debut single “Life I Know” was mixed and mastered by Grammy award winning engineer and producer Alan Sanderson. In the Summer of 2016 Creature Canyon teamed up with director and friend Mitchell Harris to create the "Life I Know" music video. The video was released in September 2016 and premiered on the esteemed west coast music blog, Free Bike Valet. Creature Canyon is currently at work in the studio writing and recording their forthcoming EP.

The Strawberry Moons

The Strawberry Moons are Aimee Jacobs (vocals, keyboard), Will A Lerner (vocals, keyboard, guitar), John Falk (guitar, vocals), Jason Areford (bass) and Dustin Schemensky (drums). They have all been involved in the San Diego music scene for several years now, in bands including The Burning of Rome, Shake Before Us, The Schizophonics, Mrs. Henry, The Paragraphs and El Consumption. The idea for forming a band that showcased male/female vocals came from Will, who was influenced by the '60s baroque/vocal pop of Lee Hazlewood and The Left Banke, the lush classic rock of Fleetwood Mac, the intense folk rock of Richard & Linda Thompson, as well as more aggressive post-punk like PJ Harvey and Nick Cave. Knowing her astounding vocal range and considerable skill as a musician, Will approached Aimee about collaborating. Her love of modern psychedelic rock and synth pop seamlessly combined with what Will was already hearing in his head, so writing together was, from the start, a very natural and organic thing. The duo spent considerable time bringing together the right musicians, starting with John (Will's old Shake Before Us bandmate), then Jason, who wisely suggested they add his long-time friend and bandmate Dustin on drums. Thus, in the spring of 2016, the line-up was complete and The Strawberry Moons officially born. Says Will, "We're brought together by a love of strong melodies and harmonies, '60s pop and psychedelic, as well as the shimmery arrangements of folk rock and the intensity of power pop and post-punk. Guy/girl vocals all the way!"
