Anthony B's musical journey
started in the church, back when
he was still known as Keith
Anthony Blair in Clark's Town in
the parish of Trelawny. In this part
of rural Jamaica, Anthony B was
immersed in the thunderous chants
and rhythms of Revivalism and the
Seventh Day Adventist church
where he honed his vocal style.
In his formative years, the artist is also inspired by the music of Otis Redding and the
incomparable Peter Tosh. When Anthony B left his home town and set out to make his
fateful mark on Kingston's music scene in 1992, he rebuked the trend of girl and gun
lyrics popular at that time and remained faithful to words of spiritual consciousness
and social conviction, a tendency he has never strayed from throughout his career.
Anthony B's rich vocals and audacious lyrics carry consistency and substance which
are both rare in an industry affected by trends towards the extreme in its content.
Internationally his fanbase has grown due to his engaging stage presence and the
universal concerns of suffering and salvation in his lyrical delivery. As the artist
explains "The greatest thing about reggae music is that it's about concepts and ideas,
you are speaking to people on issues they live and can relate to." Recording and
performing live continue Anthony B’s legacy as he proves himself to be one of
Reggae's most prolific and engaging artists, an electrifying performer whose music
engages the public’s social conscience.
Maka Roots is a veteran in Reggae music, both as a singer and as a keyboardist. Respect and Love in all aspects. Standing firm and true to the Roots. Who feels it, knows it. Live it. Jah Music. Live and Direct. Refreshing, positive and upful. A high energy experience. Feel the Vibes.
Veteran musician, singer and songwriter, Maka, began his musical journey in 1985, after the profound affect reggae music and its spiritual message had on him. Since then, Maka has been performing in Reggae bands in California and Hawaii. In that time he has shared crucial experiences with the vast reggae family and numerous Bredrin and Sistren of Rastafari. Experiences that include countless performances, long road trips and outer island gigs and highlighted by sharing the stage with a long list of international reggae artists and backing some as well. Maka is a founding member, keyboardist/vocalist of Hawaii's once top reggae bands, The Heartical Crew, a band whose roots sound influenced many of today’s popular Hawaiian reggae bands. After many years of directing all aspects of the music business, he focused on his personal musical path, stepping from the keyboards and up to the microphone as a conscious roots vocalist. In 2006, Maka released his debut CD ‘I Sight’. Like all the great roots reggae singers and players of instruments that influenced him, Maka is equally serious about his faith, Livity, and music. He continues doing Jah Works performing and recording as a vocalist and accompanying other reggae artists on keyboards. He is livicated to his mission as a singer, as player of instrument and as a messenger. Through years of reasoning with Elders of Ras Tafari, he realized it was truly a divine force guiding his path, as he strives to live his life as his Elders, with humility and love. Experience, wisdom and an unwavering sense of purpose are the strength and the spirit driving the music and message. The music that he loves and performs is a Blessed Music, born in Jamaica and brought to the four corners of the Earth. Iniversal Music in Praises of the Most High, Jah Rastafari. HIM Haile Selassie I. Righteousness through Livity, Love and Jah Music.
He was born In Colombia, South America and moved to Dayton, Ohio at the age of seven. He started djing in clubs in 1991 and has not stopped ever since. With almost 2 decades in the business he is a well experience selector. His favorite music to spin is cultural reggae, but says “I love dancehall music too”. He has been the resident DJ at the WorldBeat Center since 1996.
It all really took off when he went on a vacation to Jamaica in 1988. It was on this trip that he knew that playing reggae music would be become a major part of his life. He remembers “The music pumping out of the speakers was so infectious, I’ve been hooked ever since”. Later, in California, Carlos started Djing in Ocean Beach where he played between sets for bands like Common Sense, Shiloh band, and Zionic. He still plays in OB. He also was an on air jock on 91X with his mentor Makeda Dread alongside Dangerous Dareka. This crew was together for 7 years doing live radio on Sunday nights on Reggae Makossa.
Performing live is what he like best. He has selected for Tippa Irie and Eek-A-Mouse singing on sound system, played at House of Blues for a New Years Party with Slightly Stoopid, He and Makeda were the first reggae DJs ever to perform in Peru and a spring break week in Cabo San Lucas with 91X and Z90 are his most memorable shows. Besides playing national reggae festivals he cites those as his greatest experiences. All in all Carlos Culture “knows the ting” and will be spinning the best in reggae and dancehall music!
