Imagery Machine

Home grown in San Diego, Imagery Machine is no stranger to the city’s eclectic music scene. Its members include fiveof the city’s most talented young veterans, who only recently came together to create an ethereal, yet driven style of music. While the group would describe themselves as female-fronted San Diego rock, Imagery Machine also embodies the spiritual reincarnation of classic jam bands from yesteryear, adding to it their unique, modern perspective. Comprised of lead guitarist James Howard, drummer Tyler Shimkus, bassist Will Mino, and backup vocalist Kristin Jennings, the accomplished quintet is heralded by the haunting, soulful lead vocals of Jennie Grunstad. The color of their energy reflects in their performances, and the group commands a stirring stage presence that has already packed some of San Diego’s most popular indie venues. Just like their live shows, Imagery Machine’s recently released, self-titled EP evokes powerful, touching emotionalism paired with intimate lyrics and a galvanic beat that is all too rare in the modern age.

Difficult to pin down in any one genre, Boostive draws upon elements of, roots dub, ambient electronic, hip-hop, jazz, and world music to produce a massive and singular sound accessible to a wide range of audiences. They perform regularly with big names in reggae, hip-hop, and ambient electronic music to great success. Recent shows include Heiroglyphics, The Pharcyde, Slum Village, Souls of Mischief, Slightly Stoopid, Del tha Funkee Homosapien, Zion I, and Gramatik. They've also been featured at music festivals such Lucidity, Serenity, and Emissions.

Beyond their musical talents, the live presence and energy of the band lends a power to their performances, creating a trance-like atmosphere that moves audiences to groove, to dance, and to let loose. Born out of a dub reggae/jam/beach/funk/hip hop sound in Ocean Beach, San Diego, the band reached its maturity in Santa Cruz with the addition of its final three members. Each musician's prodigious talent and unique vibes synthesize to create their incredibly rich and distinctive sound.

The creative momentum of these young artists is unstoppable – the group is constantly creating new material, keeping the spirit alive and changing. They have two EPs currently released, self-titled "Boostive" (2012) and "Feed the People" (2014), and a full-length album recorded and on the way to being released.
